Sunday June 4 2006

We had a very nice Sunday. Our spiritual Thought was given By Joelle. Alma 41:10. Cassie was our Personal Progress Moment, and she is continuing to work on Faith #1 which Nicole has just completed. Way to Go! Keep it up!

Our lesson was reaching out to others.

Jesus had much concern for those who were lost. In Luke 15:8–10, he tells the parable of a lost coin. The lost coin in this parable could be compared to a person who is lonely or lost. The woman could be compared to one who misses and actively seeks out this person.

Some of the ways we could reach out to others is by seeking them out & talking to them. Saying Hello, learning their name, and using their name. It is important to show concern and interest for the individual in each situation. A caring attitude can overcome many difficulties and affect someone more than anything else.

The Lord has said we should not hide our light under a bushel (see Matthew 5:15–16). We should share it with others. Your Light does make a difference. If you will honestly try to extend friendship to others, the Lord will bless you for your efforts. We encourage you to Share your flame with those around you.

Sunday May 7

We had a busy Sunday; Cassie shared with us what she is working on for Personal Progress, Faith#1 Learn about faith from the scriptures and living prophets. Read Hebrews 11, Alma 32:17–42, Ether 12:6–22, and Joseph Smith—History 1:11–20. Read two general conference talks on faith. Exercise your own faith by establishing a habit of prayer in your life. Begin by saying your morning and evening prayers regularly. After three weeks of following this pattern, discuss with a parent or leader what you have learned about faith and daily personal prayer. In your journal express your feelings about faith and prayer.
We have a few Young Women working on this particular Experience, And Sister LeBow added that she to is working on this particular experience as well.

In Our Lesson, We were reminded that the Purpose of the Young Women Organization is to help each YW “Come unto Christ” (Moro. 10: 32). By following the Savior’s example and teachings, she can fulfill her mortal mission and return to live with her Heavenly Father. (GH of I pg211)

And in the 1st section of the Doctrine & Covenants we learn of the Things that we can do to help us come unto Christ and reach our Eternal Potential (D&C 1: 17-30 specifically)

Follow the Prophets, we find their teachings in the Scriptures, Conference, Church Magazines, In For the Strength of Youth, and in our Lessons, and in many places, if we seek them we will find them.

Trust in the Lord

Strengthen your Faith; We more clearly understand a principle of the gospel as we live it. For example we are commanded to pay our tithing, and as we live this principal by paying a full and honest tithe we will see the blessing in our lives. We then will be able to testify of it. Use the For Strength of youth as your Guide, Focus on the things you would like to improve, And as you Live the Standards your Testimony will grow! At Youth conference Bro. Walker told of a Seminary challenge, Each Student challenged them selves for the coming week, some examples were: to listen to appropriate music, or not watch TV, wear your Sunday Clothes to school(Keep in mind this was in Cardston), each student was able to chose for themselves. We have decided to give our YW the Same opportunity for Growth. This week they were challenged to think of the Young Women who were not in our meeting, and to think about them, and pray for them. Also to come up with a Way to reach out to them, and show them that we are thinking of them and that we Love them. There is a poster on our board in the YW room for them to sign up for a weekly challenge, to give some accountability, so come on in and Check out how our YW are growing.

Remember and Honor Sacred Covenants

Be an Example of the Word of God to all the World. This is a great one for Self Evaluation. What is my example to those around me?
In his Book Standing for Something Pres Hinkley talks of Civility (maybe take some time to read the entire chapter):
“Civility covers a host of matters in how one human being relates to another with basic human kindness and goodness. Civility requires us to restrain and control ourselves, and at the same time to act with respect towards others”(pg60).
He Concludes the Chapter” Caring for others, seeing and reaching beyond our own wants and comforts, cultivating kindness and gentility toward others from all of life’s situations and circumstances- these are the essence of civility, a virtue to be admired, a virtue to be acquired”(page 67)
At baptism we take upon us the name of the Savior. Are we kind and do we show goodness to others? How is our self control? Do we act with respect towards others? All others, not just those we like?
“Imagine how our own families, let alone the world would change if we vowed to keep faith with one another, strengthen one another, look for and accentuate the virtues in one another, and speak graciously concerning one another. Imagine the cumulative effect if we treated each other with respect and acceptance, if we willingly provide support.”(Pg 57)

Keep the Commandments

Repent

Learn Wisdom through the Instructions of the Lord
; At New Beginnings Each Young Woman Received a Book of Mormon, Our Hope is that your testimony will grow as you read the Book of Mormon, and learn and understand the things of the Lord. But first you must open the book. Sometimes it may seem over whelming to do all that is required for personal growth, but like drops in a bucket, they all add up and eventually overflow. And here is where we introduce our Reading Chart. Each week when you come into YW’s you will be able to add stickers to the Chart, Our Hope is that you will be able to see all the Good, and Progress that you and your sisters are achieving. For everyday you personally read from the Book of Mormon, not seminary, not family scripture study but when you sit down and open your scriptures yourself and read, please place a Pink Sticker on our Picture. When you say your Personal Prayers, Please Place a Blue or Green Sticker on our Picture. When you do a Service for Someone, Please place an Orange Sticker on our Picture. And anytime you do something that displays your Integrity please place a purple Sticker on Our Picture.

Remain Humble (and thus strong)

Build up the Kingdom

We learn that in D&C 88: 119: We are to “Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing and establish a ... house of order” And with that in mind we focused on preparing for our Mutual Activities.

We were able to plan for May, For Mutual May 11 & 18 We are developing a skill: we will be sewing sweat pants. It is a 2 part activity. We will be shopping for Material on the 11th. No money is required as it will be provided for out of the YW budget. And the 18th we will be cutting & sewing. If any Moms or Dads wish to come and Help out on the 18th that would be Much appreciated!

And on May 25 We will be Providing Service for the patrons at the Salvation Army. You may help contribute to the meal by preparing a batch of cookies, or goodies, or providing some fruit, or anything for our meal. You can make it ahead of time and freeze it, and bring it on the night!

We are still in need of some ideas for the next few months. So hopefully you were able to give it some more thought. post your ideas in the Posting "Mutual Ideas" comment box.

Youth Singing at Stake Conference

We have been asked by our Stake Presidency to have our youth who attended the Tri-Stake Youth Conference last weekend sing at Stake Conference on Sunday (they sang “Arise and Shine Forth” by Sally DeFord at the Sunday service in Regina). We would like to ask your help in getting our Young Women there in time. The Stake is asking the youth to be up on the stand at 9:40 on Sunday morning. We realize that in order for this to happen we will need the cooperation of the parents and families of these youth.

Thanks for your assistance.

Youth Conference 2006 "This is What we are Preparing to Do"

How was church on Sunday? A bit on the quite side I would imagine. Everyone had a terrific time last weekend in Regina. The Youth were kept busy from the moment they arrived at 5:30 pm. They were given a quick meal then taken by bus over to the Science Centre. There they did rock climbing and various other science related activities. At 10:00 pm they were taken back to the chapel to meet the folks they were staying with for the weekend.

Saturday morning we all came back to the chapel for breakfast and an awesome, inspirational talk by Brother Wade Walker, a seminary teacher from Cardston, Alberta. Lunch was served at noon and the youth got changed for the service project in the afternoon. Again the youth were taken by bus over to the temple where we went on a food drive for the Regina Regional Food Bank. The estimated amount of food that I heard we had collected was around 4 to 5,000 lbs. The youth, during testimony meeting on Sunday equated it to being a missionary and knocking on doors and asking for something.
We again heard from Brother Wade Walker in the evening, had dinner and then watched the talent show; lastly that night was the dance. It was a long day for this senior!!!!!

Sunday we met at the church for another talk by Brother Walker, took a ten minute break and came back for 2 hours of testimony from the youth, could have gone on much longer as the kids were sitting on front pew and standing in front of the sacrament table.

Brother Walker had some wonderful things to say. In order for the spirit to remain with the youth they need to remember the Savior. How this can be accomplished is if each youth has a picture of the temple and Jesus in their bedroom. His catch phrase for the weekend was, “This is what we are preparing to do.” Based on something he and his buddies would say to each other, for about everything they did. He talked about what they wanted to be when they grew up, when they were little, (6 years old) and what they wanted when they lived in the pre-mortal life. They could choose to be pumpkins (not great life expectancy or useful.) Or they could choose to be an oak tree, long lasting and majestic. He said in years to come they might not remember who gave the talk or what the talks were about, rather the friendships they had made during the weekend. He said that was okay and that those friendships would carry them through life.

Sunday April 23

WOW! Sunday was quiet. We had two beehives, Cassie and Nicole. And they both took Charge in Opening exercises; conducting,& playing the piano, Cassie gave us our Spiritual Thought which set the tone nicely for our meeting!

This Week For our Personal Progress Moment Nicole told us how she was working on Faith #1. Learn about faith from the scriptures and living prophets.

Elder Franklin D. RichardsAssistant to the Council of the Twelve
Reminds us,
“Prayer plays a vital part in our worship, our religious thinking, and our daily lives”
You can read the entire article with this link: The Importance of Prayer

Remember we can pray anytime & anywhere and for any reason, it’s our vital link with Heavenly Father, but we need to use it to keep it open. He loves each of us so very dearly, and He wants to hear from us.

In our lesson we learned of the different duties of each office, and what we (YW) could do to support the different Priesthood holders in our lives, and how we can honor the Priesthood. We learned that the Stake President is the Presiding High Priest for the entire Stake and each Ward has a High Priest Group Leader as opposed to A High Priest Quorum President. Also the Bishop is the President of the Priest Quorum, and that one of the Young Men acts as his Assistant.
